memory debug tracking annotates whether the returned pointer does not
`alias`, hints where the size required is, for Windows to be better
debugged via Visual Studio.

Add licensing and copyright information for all files in this repository. This
either happens in the file itself as a comment header or in the file
`.reuse/dep5`.
This commit also adds a Github workflow to check pull requests and adapts
copyright.pl to the changes.

- Use atexit to register a dbg cleanup function that closes the logfile.
LeakSantizier (LSAN) calls _exit() instead of exit() when a leak is
detected on exit so the logfile must be closed explicitly or data could
be lost. Though _exit() does not call atexit handlers such as this,
LSAN's call to _exit() comes after the atexit handlers are called.
Prior to this change the logfile was not explicitly closed so it was
possible that if LSAN detected a leak and called _exit (which does
not flush or close files like exit) then the logfile could be missing
data. That could then cause curl's memanalyze to report false leaks
(eg a malloc was recorded to the logfile but the corresponding free was
discarded from the buffer instead of written to the logfile, then
memanalyze reports that as a leak).

There used to be a way to have memdebug fill allocated memory. 9 years
later this has no value there (valgrind and ASAN etc are way better). If
people need to know about it they can have a look at VCS logs.

Coverity warned for two potentional "Use after free" cases. Both are false
positives because the memory wasn't used, it was only the actual pointer
value that was logged.
The fix still changes the order of execution to avoid the warnings.

The function does not return the same value as snprintf() normally does,
so readers may be mislead into thinking the code works differently than
it actually does. A different function name makes this easier to detect.

curl_printf.h defines printf to curl_mprintf, etc. This can cause
problems with external headers which may use
__attribute__((format(printf, ...))) markers etc.
To avoid that they cause problems with system includes, we include
curl_printf.h after any system headers. That makes the three last
headers to always be, and we keep them in this order:
curl_printf.h
curl_memory.h
memdebug.h
None of them include system headers, they all do funny #defines.

This change is to explicitly specify when we need to read/write text.
Unfortunately 't' is not part of POSIX fopen so we can't specify it
directly. Instead we now have FOPEN_READTEXT, FOPEN_WRITETEXT.
Prior to this change we had an issue on Windows if an application that
uses libcurl overrides the default file mode to binary. The default file
mode in Windows is normally text mode (translation mode) and that's what
libcurl expects.

Previously this memdebug free() replacement didn't properly work with a
NULL argument which has made us write code that avoids calling
free(NULL) - which causes some extra nuisance and unnecessary code.
Starting now, we should allow free(NULL) even when built with the
memdebug system enabled.
free(NULL) is permitted by POSIX
This reverts commit 7ed25cc, reinstating commit 8ec2cb5.
As of 18-jul-2013 we still do have code in libcurl that makes use of these
memory functions. Commit 8ec2cb5 comment still applies and is yet valid.
These memory functions are solely used in Windows builds, so all related
code is protected with '#ifdef WIN32' preprocessor conditional compilation
directives.
Specifically, wcsdup() _wcsdup() are used when building a Windows target with
UNICODE and USE_WINDOWS_SSPI preprocessor symbols defined. This is the case
when building a Windows UNICODE target with Windows native SSL/TLS support
enabled.
Realizing that wcsdup() _wcsdup() are used is a bit tricky given that usage
of these is hidden behind _tcsdup() which is MS way of dealing with code
that must tolerate UNICODE and non-UNICODE compilation. Additionally, MS
header files and those compatible from other compilers use this preprocessor
conditional compilation directive in order to select at compilation time
whether 'wide' or 'ansi' MS API functions are used.
Without this code, Windows build targets with Windows native SSL/TLS support
enabled and MemoryTracking support enabled misbehave in tracking memory usage,
regardless of being a UNICODE enabled build or not.
This reverts commit 8ec2cb5544.
We don't have any code anywhere in libcurl (or the curl tool) that use
wcsdup so there's no such memory use to track. It seems to cause mild
problems with the Borland compiler though that we may avoid by reverting
this change again.

As of 25-mar-2013 wcsdup() _wcsdup() and _tcsdup() are only used in
WIN32 specific code, so tracking of these has not been extended for
other build targets. Without this fix, memory tracking system on
WIN32 builds, when using these functions, would provide misleading
results.
In order to properly extend this support for all targets curl.h
would have to define curl_wcsdup_callback prototype and consequently
wchar_t should be visible before that in curl.h. IOW curl_wchar_t
defined in curlbuild.h and this pulling whatever system header is
required to get wchar_t definition.
Additionally a new curl_global_init_mem() function that also receives
user defined wcsdup() callback would be required.
This commit renames lib/setup.h to lib/curl_setup.h and
renames lib/setup_once.h to lib/curl_setup_once.h.

up to commit ec691ca3 which changed this to HEADER_CURL_SETUP_ONCE_H,
this single inclusion guard is enough to ensure that inclusion of
lib/setup_once.h done from lib/setup.h is only done once.
Additionally lib/setup.h has always used __SETUP_ONCE_H macro to
protect inclusion of setup_once.h even after commit ec691ca3, this
was to avoid a circular header inclusion triggered when building a
c-ares enabled version with c-ares sources available which also has
a setup_once.h header. Commit ec691ca3 exposes the real nature of
__SETUP_ONCE_H usage in lib/setup.h, it is a header inclusion guard
foreign to libcurl belonging to c-ares's setup_once.h
The renaming this commit does, fixes the circular header inclusion,
and as such removes the need and usage of a header inclusion guard
foreign to libcurl. Macro __SETUP_ONCE_H no longer used in libcurl.
2 - Due to the circular interdependency of old lib/setup_once.h and the
c-ares setup_once.h header, old file lib/setup_once.h has carried
back from 2006 up to now days an alarming and prominent notice about
the need of keeping libcurl's and c-ares's setup_once.h in sync.
Given that this commit fixes the circular interdependency, the need
and presence of mentioned notice is removed.
All mentioned interdependencies come back from now old days when
the c-ares project lived inside a curl subdirectory. This commit
removes last traces of such fact.

Until 2011-08-17 libcurl's Memory Tracking feature also performed
automatic malloc and free filling operations using 0xA5 and 0x13
values. Our own preinitialization of dynamically allocated memory
might be useful when not using third party memory debuggers, but
on the other hand this would fool memory debuggers into thinking
that all dynamically allocated memory is properly initialized.
As a default setting, libcurl's Memory Tracking feature no longer
performs preinitialization of dynamically allocated memory on its
own. If you know what you are doing, and really want to retain old
behavior, you can achieve this compiling with preprocessor symbols
CURL_MT_MALLOC_FILL and CURL_MT_FREE_FILL defined with appropriate
values.
This was possible on debug c-ares enabled builds when both CURL_MEMDEBUG
and CARES_MEMDEBUG environment variables were set. Leading to a file handle
leak even when both variables had the same value, and wierd test suite
results when different.
