There remain some false positives, hits in test data, and `dir` use,
around 100 issues in total.
There is no plan to enforce badwords on tests.
Also:
- badwords.txt: let a few `manpage[s]` occurrences through
(in Perl code).
Closes#19541
- fix test_17_20 flakiness: the test case did not have `nghttpx` in
its parameters, causing it to no check if a reload was necessary.
When that test ran behind one that gave nghttpx another certificate,
eg. in parallel mode, it used the wrong pinned pubkey.
- Have `env` provide lists of HTTP protocol versions available for
testing. Replace parameterized tests on a fixed protocol list with
the dynamic one from env. This makes checks for protocol availability
in the test function bodies superfluous.

To allow running pytests on more curl configurations.
Also delete a redundant H3 feature check from test_17_14_expired_cert.
Cherry-picked from #19407Closes#19412
Detect via curlinfo if curl has verbose strings disabled, and skip
tests that require it.
Also:
- cmake: make pytests depend on curlinfo.

test_10_08, uploading larger files for a h2 proxy, sporadically fails
with a decrpytion error on received data in AWS-LC. The frequency can
be increased by simulated network receive blocks.
Not setting a 4 * TLS record sized buffer, leaving AWS-LC at its
default buffer size seems to mitigate this problem.
Closes#18434
Add a connection filter query to obtained the negotiated ALPN
protocol to check in setup/protocols how the connection needs
to behave.
Remove the members `alpn` and `proxy_alpn` from `connectdata`.
Closes#17947
Fix compile error when building with `--disable-verbose`.
Adjust pytest to skip when curl is not a debug build but needs
traces.

- codespell: break logic out into its own runnable script. Allowing
to run it on local machines.
- codespell: install via `pip`, bump to latest version.
- codespell: show version number in CI log.
- codespell: drop no longer needed word exception: `msdos`.
- codespell: include all curl source tree, except `packages` and
`winbuild`. Drop an obsolete file exclusion.
- add new spellchecker job using the `typos` tool. It includes
the codespell dictionary and a couple more. Use linuxbrew to install
it. This takes 10 seconds, while installing via `cargo` from source
would take over a minute.
- codespell: introduce an inline ignore filter compatible with `cspell`
Make `typos` recognize it, too. Move single exceptions inline.
Fix new typos found. Also rename variables and words to keep
spellchecking exceptions at minumum. This involves touching some tests.
Also switch base64 strings to `%b64[]` to avoid false positives.

These libraries do not support TLS 1.3 and have been marked for removal
for over a year. We want to help users select a TLS dependency that is
future-proof and reliable, and not supporting TLS 1.3 in 2025 does not
infer confidence. Users who build libcurl are likely to be served better
and get something more future-proof with a TLS library that supports
1.3.
Closes#16677
They take about 4.5 minutes of CI time in GHA/macos.
Also:
- autotools: improve `caddy`, `vsftpd` detection.
Bringing it closer to cmake.
- autotools: fix `--with-test-caddy=no`, `--with-test-vsftps=no`,
`--with-test-nghttpx=no` options.
- cmake: sync `nghttpx` default with autotools.
- pytest: disable failing mbedTLS tests on macOS CI.
- pytest: disable failing earlydata tests on macOS CI.
- GHA/macos: keep vsftpd pytests disabled due to lengthy run times.
- pytest: fix test_05_04 for LibreSSL. Ref: #17367

Ref: https://github.com/curl/curl/actions/runs/15073354301/job/42374999041#step:17:1536
Workaround: not enabling pytest for mbedTLS jobs
- 17 FTP tests taking a long time (affecting all TLS backends):
without vsftpd:
`====================== 496 passed, 244 skipped in 56.15s =======================`
Ref: https://github.com/curl/curl/actions/runs/15073354301/job/42374998230#step:17:1536

Require now pytest-xdist from tests/http/requirements.txt and
run pytest in 'auto' parallel mode (counts cpu cores).
For CI runs, set the worker count to 4, overriding the
core count of 2 exposed in the images.
- use Filelock to generate allocated ports at start for all
workers and have subsequent workers just read the file and
take the ports for their slot
- make httpd config clearing a function fixture so every test
starts with a clean httpd config
- have fixture `configures_httpd` as parameter of test cases
that configure httpd anyway, saving one reload
- add pytest-xdist and filelock to required pyhton modules
- add installs to ruff CI
- give live checks waiting for a server to start up longer time
- add fixtures to tests that rely on a server
- do not stop servers unnecessarily. failures may not start them
properly again, leading to unexpected fails in whatever follows
- add a https: port to httpd that is *not* back by QUIC to allow
failover tests without stopping the QUIC server
Closes#17295
Configure the AES 256 instead of the AES 128 cipher in the test httpd to
make scorecard testing between httpd and caddy more comparable.
Adapt test_17 expectations, now that AES 128 can no longer, but 256 can
now be negotiated.
Closes#14502
- replace the counting of upload lengths with the new eos send flag
- improve frequency of stream draining to happen less on events where it
is not needed
- this PR is based on #14220
http2, cf-h2-proxy: fix EAGAINed out buffer
- in adjust pollset and shutdown handling, a non-empty `ctx->outbufq`
must trigger send polling, irregardless of http/2 flow control
- in http2, fix retry handling of blocked GOAWAY frame
test case improvement:
- let client 'upload-pausing' handle http versions
Closes#14253
- improve info logging when peer verification fails to indicate
if DNS name or ip address has been tried to match
- add test case for contacting https proxy with ip address
- add pytest env check on loaded credentials and re-issue
when they are no longer valid
- disable proxy ip address test for bearssl, since not supported there
Ref: #12831Closes#12838
- tunnel https proxy used for http: transfers does
no check if proxy-ssl configuration matches
- test cases added, test_10_12 fails on 8.4.0
Closes#12255
- added test cases for various code paths
- fixed handling of blocked write when stream had
been closed inbetween attempts
- re-enabled DEBUGASSERT on send with smaller data size
- in debug builds, environment variables can be set to simulate a slow
network when sending data. cf-socket.c and vquic.c support
* CURL_DBG_SOCK_WBLOCK: percentage of send() calls that should be
answered with a EAGAIN. TCP/UNIX sockets.
This is chosen randomly.
* CURL_DBG_SOCK_WPARTIAL: percentage of data that shall be written
to the network. TCP/UNIX sockets.
Example: 80 means a send with 1000 bytes would only send 800
This is applied to every send.
* CURL_DBG_QUIC_WBLOCK: percentage of send() calls that should be
answered with EAGAIN. QUIC only.
This is chosen randomly.
Closes#11756
- delete completed TODO from `./CMakeLists.txt`.
- convert a C++ comment to C89 in `./CMake/CurlTests.c`.
- delete duplicate EOLs from EOF.
- add missing EOL at EOF.
- delete whitespace at EOL (except from expected test results).
- convert tabs to spaces.
- convert CRLF EOLs to LF in GHA yaml.
- text casing fixes in `./CMakeLists.txt`.
- fix a codespell typo in `packages/OS400/initscript.sh`.
Closes#11772
- fix HTTP/2 check to not declare a connection dead when
the read attempt results in EAGAIN
- add H2-PROXY alive check as for HTTP/2 that was missing
and is needed
- add attach/detach around Curl_conn_is_alive() and remove
these in filter methods
- add checks for number of connections used in some test_10
proxy tunneling tests
Closes#11368
- with `--proxy-http2` allow h2 ALPN negotiation to
forward proxies
- applies to http: requests against a https: proxy only,
as https: requests will auto-tunnel
- adding a HTTP/1 request parser in http1.c
- removed h2h3.c
- using new request parser in nghttp2 and all h3 backends
- adding test 2603 for request parser
- adding h2 proxy test cases to test_10_*
scorecard.py: request scoring accidentally always run curl
with '-v'. Removed that, expect double numbers.
labeller: added http1.* and h2-proxy sources to detection
Closes#10967
- currently only on debug build and when env variable
CURL_PROXY_TUNNEL_H2 is present.
- will ALPN negotiate with the proxy server and switch
tunnel filter based on the protocol negotiated.
- http/1.1 tunnel code moved into cf-h1-proxy.[ch]
- http/2 tunnel code implemented in cf-h2-proxy.[ch]
- tunnel start and ALPN set remains in http_proxy.c
- moving all haproxy related code into cf-haproxy.[ch]
VTLS changes
- SSL filters rely solely on the "alpn" specification they
are created with and no longer check conn->bits.tls_enable_alpn.
- checks on which ALPN specification to use (or none at all) are
done in vtls.c when creating the filter.
Testing
- added a nghttpx forward proxy to the pytest setup that
speaks HTTP/2 and forwards all requests to the Apache httpd
forward proxy server.
- extending test coverage in test_10 cases
- adding proxy tests for direct/tunnel h1/h2 use of basic auth.
- adding test for http/1.1 and h2 proxy tunneling to pytest
Closes#10780
- will check built curl for http and https support and
skip all tests if not there
- will dump stdout/stderr/trace output on errored responses
Closes#10829
- added to: ngtcp2-quictls, ngtcp2-gnutls and the linux varians
quiche, bearssl, libressl, mbedtls, openssl3, rustls
- added disabled in ngtcp2-wolfssl due to weird SSL_connect() errors
not reproducable locally
Improvements on pytest:
- handling of systems with nghttpx in $PATH
- configure will seach $PATH got nghttpx used in pytest
- pytest fixes for managing nghttpx without h3 support
- ngtcp2-wolfssl: use a fully enabled wolfssl build
- lower parallel count for http/1.1 tests, since we do not
want to test excessive connections.
- check built curl for HTTPS-proxy support in proxy tests
- bearssl does not like one of our critical cert extensions, making
it non-critical now
- bearssl is too slow for test_12, skipping
- making sure we do h3 tests only when curl and server support is there
Closes#10699
- httpd is only one server we test with
- the suite coveres the HTTP protocol in general where
the default test cases need a more beefy environment
Closes#10654
